The Colorado Trust regularly hires freelance writers and reporters to cover inequality and injustice issues as they relate to health outcomes—and, importantly, potential solutions. The stories usually focus on one or more of the social determinants of health. The pieces are sometimes (but not always) pegged to national news events, studies/research, etc. The story must be relevant to Colorado at least indirectly, and Colorado-specific angles within stories (including interviews with Coloradans) are often necessary. Stories are posted exclusively to our website ( www.coloradotrust.org – click the Newsroom link, or consult the Recent News section on the home page) and regularly shared with a wider audience via social media channels and email newsletters.
The Trust pays on a per-article basis, generally starting at $500 for shorter pieces (averaging 750 words), and $1,000 or more for longer articles that require significant reporting.
