SPOA is Hiring a Freelance Writer to Write and Edit Newsletter Articles

Job Description:

The Small Property Owners Association write a monthly newsletter (except July and August) with a subscriber base of approximately 1,000 readers per month. Each month we collect stories related to rental real estate, primarily with emphasis on Massachusetts, sharing the landlord point of view. Much of our work is outspokenly critical of public officials who fail to consider the landlord point of view when crafting new housing policies. We need help with:

Researching, writing, and editing newsletter articles covering a variety of topic areas, including but not limited to:

  • Fines levied by the attorney general on landlords
  • Landlord commentary on anti-landlord news stories
  • Opposition to efforts to revive rent control in Boston (so-called “Just Cause Eviction”), and
  • Support of efforts to enact mandatory rent escrow during habitiability disputes in court

We are looking for a freelance writer, journalist and editor to make substantial contributions to our work. In particular, follow rental real estate news and developments, conduct journalistic follow-up to get insight into the stories, write about and editorialize on what has been seen, and read and edit articles written by volunteers.

You will work with a professional typesetter to fit the articles into the number of pages allowed.
