A letter from the editors of Sublevel Magazine at CalArts:
The “Speculative” is often used as an umbrella term for a host of genres, from science fiction to fantasy, horror and alternative histories. The Speculative is, of course, this, but it is also more; it is conjecture, the process of theorizing, risky financial investments, and, in the screenwriting world, it refers to unbought, uncommissioned screenplay.
For the “Portfolio” section of our “Speculative” issue, we’re looking for work that plays with that double meaning: a speculative script. We’re looking for either the first two pages of a script in a speculative genre, or a treatment for a speculative film/play/TV show.
The deadline for these pieces is January 30th. We can provide compensation of $50.
