Eklektix, Inc. is seeking Freelance Writers to write for LWN.net (est. 1998), a leading online news source for tech experts specializing in Linux and FOSS (free and open source software). The site actively reports on many important issues pertaining to “open source” technologies, including development, security, and legal issues.
Freelance writers are needed to contribute to two areas of the site:
1. opening editorials for LWN.net’s multiple Weekly Edition pages, derived from current and emerging events; and
2. feature-length articles that focus on specific subjects and not necessarily influenced by current news or events. For instance, the site continually needs feature articles for the site’s Kernel page which covers Linux kernel development on a weekly basis.
The editors prefer that writers report on a narrow topic thoroughly. They also want writers to pitch their own topic ideas that they are interested in covering. Do not pitch “how-to” articles–the site does not publish them. The editors are interested in current news and alerting readers about newsworthy developments.
Suggested word length: up to 1500 words per article.
Payment: $200 per article for articles published to the site’s Weekly edition pages; $250 per subject-specific feature articles. The editors may pay higher rates to established writers who write regularly for the site.
