Gizmodo Media Group (GMG), which is part of Univision’s digital arm, Fusion Media Group, is seeking an experienced editor to serve as News Editor for Jalopnik, its automotive-focused news and opinion website that reaches more than 11 million global readers a month.
This is a full-time freelance temporary editing position with a path to full-time hiring that reports directly to Jalopnik’s Editor-in-Chief. The News Editor will be tasked with editing and commissioning daily stories, editing longer features when needed, and aiding with the administrative duties of running Jalopnik. This person will also be called on to help run the site’s social media accounts from time to time.
The News Editor must be a well-organized, hardworking journalist with strong news judgement, experience cleaning up copy, knowledge of cars and the automotive and tech industries, a passion for compelling stories, and above all, familiarity with Jalopnik’s unique writing voice.
The ideal candidate will:
-Have one to two years in an editing role at a major print or online publication
-Have experience at an automotive or technology-related publication
-Be organized, detail-oriented, and an ambitious writer
-Be able to help manage a dedicated team of writers
-Respond nimbly to cultural and news events with appropriate stories
-Understand Jalopnik’s unique voice and be dedicated to growing the site’s audience
This is a full-time freelance position at Gizmodo Media.
Candidates will primarily be considered in New York City.
