NC Health News is Searching for a Local Freelance Writer to Cover Health Care

Job summary: NC Health News is searching for a Local Freelance Writer with journalism experience to cover healthcare, health policy, and the business of health. The writer will work 10-12 hours a week at $15-23/ hour.

Job Description

We’re looking for a writer in the Charlotte/ Mecklenburg/ Piedmont area to write about health care, health policy, the business of health, perhaps research being done locally, for NC Health News.

A good candidate will have knowledge of the area, and at least some experience (if you’re a graduate of a journalism program, that’ll work). Knowledge of health care or science is a BIG plus. Knowledge of/ experience with multimedia or social media are also a plus (send examples).

This is not a job where you write about “10 ways to control your diabetes,” rather one where you might track what the Charlotte City Council is saying about a health issue, where you might visit a county jail to report on how inmates are receiving health care services, or visit a county health clinic to report on a teen pregnancy prevention program (all of these are stories we’ve done from the Charlotte area).
