Freelance Entertainment Writer Needed to Write for Ziff Davis’ Geek.com

Job Description:

Ziff Davis Media’s Geek.com (est. 1996), a leading technology news site celebrating the geek culture, is hiring a Freelance Entertainment Writer to cover everything under the gamut of pop culture and entertainment with a “wonderfully weird” Geek-influence. The writer will be writing about comics, movies, superheroes, music, TV, technology, etc.

Each day the writer will develop 3-5 engaging posts in the form of concise news items and long-form feature articles. A conversational writing style with humor is necessary. The editors will assign stories to the writer, but also require the writer to pitch his or her own topics.

Must Haves:

  • Experience writing about geek lifestyle and entertainment.
  • A sense of wit, playfulness, and humor is a MUST. Geek culture is entertaining and amusing. You need to express that.
  • Profound knowledge of the geek scene. You can quickly identify both emerging and viral stories.
  • Ability to edit and proofread your own work with little editorial direction.
  • Familiar with using WordPress, HTML, editing images, and writing clever headlines.

Payment: to be discussed with the contracted writer.
